Segment Liners
Underground Support Systems offers proprietary, robotically manufactured steel tunnel or shaft Segment Liners that provide a thrust platform to advance the tunneling machine, reinforcement for the excavated tunnel or shaft and are available with a water tight gasket. This makes available the first viable, cost effective alternative to precast concrete segments for shorter tunnels or shafts where high set up costs for forms and availability are prohibitive. In addition, commonly available tunnel liner plates may not have the structural integrity for moving a tunneling machine forward. Flange sizes can be built to any thickness or dimension to minimize or eliminate internal supports such as ribs.
The tunnel or shaft Segment Liner incorporates structural supports within a welded containment shell. Because they are welded sections, they can be made to any size and are custom designed to your configuration. They are groutable to fill the annular space and reduce or eliminate the need for internal rib support.
The Segment Liners can be manufactured for erector arms or manual installation for any diameter or weight. Galvanizing is also available.
